The services we offer
We offer:
New services for 2012
"The vicar and the atheist" - suitable for years 10/11, 12/13 and beyond
Students, and others, may be shocked to learn that religious people and atheists have a lot in common - in fact they probably agree about far more things than they disagree about.
The media is full of "bad things done by religious people" and calls by "militant secularists" to "ban religion."
We have brought together two people from different ends of the religious spectrum to discuss their differences - and to share the things they have in common.
Ian Winterbottom is a recently retired Church of England vicar - his last parish was Barrow on Trent. Ian is the chair of trustees at the Open Centre.
Mike Lake is a local businessman, life-long atheist and founder of Derbyshire Secularists and Humanists. Mike is a trustee at the Open Centre.
Ian and Mike are happy to turn up, sit down and just answer questions or start a discussion. They would be equally happy spending five minutes outlining their key beliefs before opening it up for questions and discussion.
We can guarantee an interesting, informative and entertaining session with these two - whether they are talking to adult groups or to years 10/11 or 12/13 and beyond. Money back guarantee if you (and your students) don't find it enjoyable!

"Town meets country"
In keeping with our policy that "Respect is a two-way street" we are now offering the chance for city-dwellers to find out what life is like in the countryside.
Our trips can be tailored to meet almost any needs but we can show you small out-of-the-way villages which haven't changed much in over 200 years. We can visit deserted villages and country churches and find out why the non-conformist movement took such a hold in the countryside in the 19th century.
A chance to see some interesting places and to understand a little of rural history - and maybe meet a farmer or two! All this within half an hour of Derby city centre.
